In short. Kiseki has no account, no ads and no tracking. Your walks, places, notes and photos stay on your iPhone. If you turn on iCloud backup, they are also saved in your own iCloud. We cannot see it. We never sell or share your data. We never look at what is in your photos.
Who we are
Kiseki is an iPhone app made by Mukunda Gujjar, an independent developer (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Kiseki app and this website. If you have a question, write to getkiseki@gmail.com.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you create in Kiseki is stored on your iPhone, in the app’s own storage:
- your walks: the route (location points and times), distance, duration, the walk’s name and the weather when it began;
- places you mark and notes you write;
- links to the photos and videos you took during a walk (not the photos themselves);
- for Walk home, the home address you choose. It never leaves your iPhone, not even with iCloud backup;
- your settings.
We do not have servers that store your walks, and we cannot see them.
Location
Kiseki asks for your location to show where you are on the map and to draw the route of your walks. While a walk is recording, Kiseki keeps using your location with your iPhone locked, and iOS shows that it is in use. Your location is not sent to us. Some of it is sent to Apple and to the map service to show the map, place names and weather, as described under “Services Kiseki uses”.
Photos and videos
Photos are off until you turn them on. When you do, Kiseki asks iOS for access to your photo library and only reads it. To decide which photos belong to a walk, Kiseki looks at each photo’s time, location and camera details (for example the camera model). It never looks at what the photo shows. Your photos stay in the Photos app. Kiseki stores only Apple’s identifiers for them, so it can show them on your walk. Nothing is copied or uploaded. You can turn photos off in Kiseki’s settings or in the iPhone Settings app at any time.
iCloud backup (optional)
Kiseki+ is coming soon. With it, you will be able to turn on Back up to iCloud. Your walks, places and notes are then copied to your own private iCloud database using Apple’s CloudKit, so they come back on a new iPhone. This data belongs to your Apple Account. Apple stores it under the Apple Privacy Policy, and we have no access to it. You can turn backup off in Kiseki at any time, and delete the stored data in the Settings app › your name › iCloud › Storage › Kiseki.
Walk home (optional)
Walk home lets people you invite know when you set off and when you get home.
- Between you and your contacts. Invitations are private iCloud share links. During a walk home, your name, the time you are expected, your latest location (updated about every minute) and your battery level are shared with the people you invited, through iCloud. When you get home or turn it off, your location is removed. We cannot see any of this.
- The alert timer. So your contacts can be told if you don’t check in (even if your phone is off), your iPhone sends our small timer service the first name you entered, the time you are expected, and your contacts’ push notification addresses. It never receives your location. The service runs on Cloudflare Workers, sends alerts through the Apple Push Notification service and deletes everything about the walk when it ends, or a few hours after an alert.
Walk home is not an emergency service. Please read the terms of use.
Services Kiseki uses
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| OpenFreeMap (map tiles from OpenStreetMap data) | Requests for the map area on screen, with your IP address like any web request. No account or identifier. | To draw the map |
| Apple Maps (MapKit) | Locations you look up or are at | Street and place names, address search for Walk home, satellite imagery |
| Apple Weather (WeatherKit) | The place and time a walk begins | The weather line on your walk |
| Apple iCloud (CloudKit) | Your walks, if you turn on backup. Walk home status, if you use it. | Backup and Walk home sharing |
| Kiseki Walk home timer (Cloudflare) | First name, expected time, contacts’ push addresses. Never your location. | Alerts if you don’t check in |
| App Store (StoreKit) | Your purchase, handled by Apple | Kiseki+ subscriptions (coming soon) |
Apple’s services are covered by the Apple Privacy Policy. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details, only anonymous sales totals.
What we don’t do
- No account and no sign up.
- No ads, no analytics and no tracking tools in the app.
- No selling, renting or sharing of your data with anyone.
- No AI analysis of your walks, and no scanning of what is in your photos.
Crash reports
If you chose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. They help us fix bugs and do not identify you. You can change this in the Settings app › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Sharing your walks
When you share a replay video or poster, you choose where it goes using the iOS share sheet. It shows the walk’s name, date, distance and time. Kiseki does not write location metadata into shared videos or images.
Face ID
Face ID lock is coming with Kiseki+. If you turn it on, iOS checks your face and only tells Kiseki whether it matched. Kiseki never receives your Face ID data.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Delete a walk, place or note in the app at any time.
- Deleting the app deletes everything stored on your iPhone.
- Delete your iCloud backup in the Settings app › your name › iCloud › Storage › Kiseki.
- Walk home timer data is deleted automatically when each walk ends.
Because we don’t hold your walks or an account for you, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. If you have a request about your data, write to us and we will help.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe, the Act on the Protection of Personal Information in Japan, or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information and to object to its use. Most of your information never reaches us, but if you want to use any of these rights, write to getkiseki@gmail.com.
Children
Kiseki is not made for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
